Wat Prakaewdontaosuchadaram Lampang

The records related that in the year 1436 A.D. King Sam Fang Kean of Chiangmai arranged a prossesion of the Image from Chiangrai, with in intention to place it in Chiangmai City. The elephant,carrying the idol, ran unexpectedly away towards Lampang City.
It refused to make any move to Chiangmai, inspite of the enforcements. Finally the King had to give in and ordered the idol to be placed at Wat Pra Kaew Don Tao. It was placed there for 32 years, until the King moved it to Chiangmai.









Wat Suchadaram was built around 1782 - 1809 when King Gavila resettle Chiangsean residents here to avoid in the invasion
of Burma.According to the legend, the temple was dedicated to
Suchada, the faithful lady who was executed by misunderstanding.
The temple was built at her place and her melon yard later when
people found out that she was mudslung.
In 1984, this temple was merged with Wat Pra Kaew Don Tao by the ministry of Education and also renamed as
" Wat PrakaeDontao SuchaDaram "
